I started to understand what my real life is all about when I completed my Bachelor's degree in Management Studies in 2010 with a Marketing specialization.
Living in a small city like Dombivli, traveling to Mumbai was a 4-hour journey to and fro, and honestly, not my cup of tea.
In those days, the jobs that many marketing or business graduates were offered within my district (Thane) were mainly in sales - digital, telemarketing, etc.
Being an extreme introvert, the interviewers failed to understand me as by the time they would want me to answer, I would be afraid to look at their faces and imagine all the worst-case scenarios to explain my abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
It was after a few months of job search, I got a writing opportunity in 2010 at an educational website that was to build from scratch.
Earning just a few bucks from a work-from-home job was sufficient for my ailing father who had plans to get me married off soon.
But I had dreams to study, discover my true potential, and to even decide to marry only when the right time comes.
I completed my Master of Commerce in Business Management in 2012.
Things didn't change much (financially) in my first startup job that lasted till 2015 but I learned the basics of SEO, social media marketing, and how a blog runs and even fails badly.
Most importantly, I learned the role of running a startup business from scratch.
I realized the hard way that only quality content endures, no matter what sort of marketing or business strategy we use.
As I was recovering from the personal loss of my father in 2013, I eventually decided to focus only on Content Writing (as it seemed to be a spiritual healer).
I completed and kept the post-graduate diplomas and certificates (in Indian sign language interpretation, women empowerment, career counseling, and even business administration) aside as my introversion made me only express these topics in the form of blogs or articles well rather than speaking or coaching about it.
Thus, I got immense clarity in 2016 that reading and writing are my core strengths and the other areas of my career interests should be utilized as a value-addition for The Content Writer that is evolving inside me.
Between 2016 to 2018, I again worked in a couple of EdTech and News Media startups (made better money comparatively that could be used for performing my arranged marriage).
From being a shy girl who had only bookish knowledge, I became a traditional Tamil Brahmin wife and daughter-in-law in 2018. My soul mate became my life partner.
My blessed marital life made me realize the importance of sticking to our basic roots which helps in evolving and growing in life.
Thanks to my family, I got much-needed exposure in terms of life experiences in the areas of Indian culture and spirituality.
My husband Mr. Umashankar Radhakrishnan Iyer's immense support and encouragement helped me break free from all the negative comments of naysayers that I had kept believing all these years in my school, college, and start-up journey.
I got a new-found confidence in re-developing my small basic writing career which made me put my learning hats again during the COVID-19 pandemic times and earn Certificates in Holistic Aging, Event Management, Counselling and Spiritual Health, Self-Management and Crisis Management, Philosophy, Gandhi and Peace Studies.
I learned in the right way that it is the perfect time in 2021 to have my own writing business – Preethi Umashankar Iyer Creations wherein freelancing for others can only help me lead a balanced life (financially, emotionally, and even spiritually).
I set up WiseOm.co.in in 2021 as an infotainment blog that caters to Indian and global audience with simplicity at its core.
Simultaneously since 2023, I have been trying my luck for writing gigs at job sites like Naukri, Indeed, LinkedIn, and others.
In a nutshell, even though I was not a trained content writer back then in 2010 when I started my journey, writing what I know in the most simple and basic English language helped me get my own loyal and trust-worthy audience and client base.
I thank all those who have worked with me in my 16-year career. (Check clients page).
Looking forward to keep learning and evolve with my ethical and favorite "slow and steady" approach in the coming years.
Yours genuinely,
Mrs. Parvathy Umashankar Iyer
(also known as Parvathy Ananthanarayanan Mangala)
