Kangana Ranaut Advocates for Himachal Tribal Art in Parliament Amid Election Dispute

Kangana Ranaut recently made headlines after her election win in Mandi was challenged in the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

On Thursday, she shared a video of her first speech in Parliament on Instagram and X.

In her speech, Kangana, a BJP MP, talked about the decline of Himachal's tribal music and folk art.

Speaking in Hindi, she expressed her gratitude for the chance to speak in Parliament on behalf of Mandi's people.

Kangana highlighted the endangered status of various art forms in Mandi.

She mentioned a traditional construction technique called kath-kuni and the use of sheep skin to make clothing items like jackets, caps, shawls, and sweaters, which are valued abroad but are disappearing locally.

She urged discussions on measures to promote these traditions.

Kangana also brought attention to the endangered folk music of Himachal Pradesh, especially the tribal music from Spiti, Kinnaur, and Bharmour.

She questioned what actions were being taken to preserve these cultural treasures.

In her post, she wrote, "Today I got the first chance to talk about Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) in the Parliament."

The Himachal Pradesh High Court issued a notice to Kangana after a Kinnaur resident filed a petition challenging her election.

The petition claimed that his nomination papers for the Lok Sabha constituency were wrongly rejected.

Justice Jyotsna Rewal directed Kangana to respond by August 21. Kangana had won the Mandi seat by defeating Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh by 74,755 votes, with a total of 5,37,002 votes against Singh's 4,62,267.

There are several lessons we can learn from Kangana Ranaut's recent experiences and actions:

Cultural Preservation is Crucial

Kangana's speech highlights the importance of preserving cultural heritage, such as traditional art forms and folk music.

We should actively work to protect and promote these aspects of our culture before they disappear.

Using Platforms for Advocacy

Public figures have the ability to use their platforms to bring attention to important issues.

Kangana utilized her position in Parliament to speak about the extinction of cultural traditions, demonstrating how influential voices can advocate for meaningful causes.

Value of Traditional Knowledge

The mention of indigenous techniques and traditional clothing underscores the value of traditional knowledge.

These practices not only have cultural significance but can also offer unique contributions to modern society.

Engagement in Democratic Processes

The legal challenge to Kangana's election win serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and fairness in democratic processes.

It highlights that elections should be conducted with integrity, and any grievances should be addressed through legal channels.

Adapting to Criticism and Challenges

Kangana's response to the high court notice shows the necessity of facing criticism and legal challenges calmly and responsibly.

It is important to engage with the legal process and provide the necessary responses when required.

Representation Matters

Kangana's role as a representative of Mandi in Parliament demonstrates the importance of having diverse voices in legislative bodies.

This ensures that different regions and communities have a voice in decision-making processes.

Public Engagement

Sharing her speech on social media platforms like Instagram and X shows the importance of engaging with the public and keeping them informed about one's actions and viewpoints.

This transparency helps build trust and a stronger connection with constituents.
