Anya was on a call with her family when Varun walked by.
He could hear her voice, soft and concerned.
Her family was discussing a potential match for her, a well-established businessman from a reputable family.
A strange feeling washed over Varun.
A pang of jealousy, sharp and unexpected.
He had never felt this way before.
It was as if someone was trying to take something precious away from him.
Anya noticed his discomfort.
She could see the tension in his face, the slight frown, the clenched jaw.
She smiled inwardly. Perhaps he was starting to realize his feelings for her.
"I'm not interested," Anya said firmly to her family. "I'm focused on my career right now."
She hung up the phone and turned to face Varun.
"Sorry about that," she apologized. "Family matters."
Varun nodded, trying to mask his emotions.
"No problem," he said, his voice a bit hoarse.
Anya studied his face.
She could see the conflict in his eyes.
She knew he was struggling with something, but she wasn't sure what.
"Is everything okay?" she asked, her voice soft.
Varun hesitated. "Yeah, everything's fine," he said, forcing a smile.
Anya wasn't convinced.
She knew there was something more going on, something that was bothering him.
But she decided to let him figure it out on his own.
As Varun watched Anya walk away, he couldn't help but feel a sense of longing.
He wanted to tell her how he felt, but he was afraid of rejection.
He was afraid of ruining their friendship.
