Neeti Mohan on AI in Music: Keep the Human Touch Alive

Recently, many singers and musicians have talked about the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the music industry.

Singer Neeti Mohan is the latest to share her thoughts on this topic.

She believes that while AI can improve experiences, it can never match the emotional depth that humans bring to music.

Neeti Mohan says that AI, robots, or any type of artificial intelligence should be used wisely.

She feels that an artist's work is special because it comes from their heart, soul, and energy, which AI can never replace.

Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman recently used AI to recreate the voices of late singers Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed for the song "Thimiri Yezhuda" in the movie "Lal Salam."

Rahman made sure to get permission from the singers' families and compensated them, but the move received mixed reactions from the industry and fans.

Neeti Mohan expressed her concerns about AI potentially taking away the personal touch from art.

She said that while technology and software are used to enhance music, using AI to recreate a deceased singer's voice or using a living singer’s voice without permission is illegal.

She mentioned that there are legal measures being worked on to prevent misuse of AI in the future.

Mohan warned that AI could depersonalize art, and over time, people might realize that it's not a good choice.

Neeti Mohan, who recently released her version of the song "Tu Hai Toh" from the movie "Mr & Mrs Mahi," acknowledged that AI can be fun when used to make multi-voice collages.

However, she cautioned that art, music, singing, and dancing are all forms of human expression.

If these become artificial, they may lose their impact.

Life and Career Lessons

Embrace Technology Wisely: Use technology, including AI, to enhance your work but not to replace the unique human touch.

Respect for Artistry: Remember that true artistry comes from the heart, soul, and energy that humans bring into their work.

Ethical Use of AI: Always seek permission and ensure fair compensation when using AI to replicate someone else's work.

Maintain Personal Touch: Avoid letting technology depersonalize your art. Human expression is irreplaceable.

Legal Awareness: Stay informed about legalities related to the use of AI in your field to prevent misuse and protect your rights.

Innovation with Caution: Be open to new technologies but use them thoughtfully to ensure that they enhance rather than diminish the value of your work.
