It had been a few days since Raghu and Reena’s emotional farewell.
Raghu had thrown himself into preparing for his job interview, hoping to move forward with a new chapter in his life.
But even as he focused on the future, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing.
The absence of his connection with Reena lingered in the back of his mind, leaving him a bit restless, unsure of how to bridge the gap between their college goodbye and their new paths.
Meanwhile, Reena was still adjusting to the fact that Raghu had moved on from college.
But the more she thought about their interactions, the more she realized how much she valued his friendship.
He had helped her in ways that no one else had, and his departure from college had left a small void in her life.
She missed their casual talks, their moments of understanding, and the ease with which Raghu had shared his experiences with her.
So, after much thought, Reena decided to take a step that she had been hesitating to make.
She created a Facebook account.
“I don’t need to be on social media,” she had always told herself, preferring to stay away from the distractions it could bring.
But this time, it felt different.
She wasn’t just signing up for Facebook to browse mindlessly or stay updated on the latest trends.
She was doing it to reconnect with someone who had become an important part of her college experience.
Reena carefully filled out the details for her profile, choosing a simple photo of herself and adding a few details.
It felt a little odd, but she was determined.
Once her account was set up, she searched for Raghu’s profile.
It didn’t take long to find him—his profile picture was a familiar one, from the last college fest.
She hesitated for a moment before clicking the ‘Add Friend’ button.
Raghu, who had been absorbed in his job interview preparation, received the notification of Reena’s friend request the following afternoon.
He was in the middle of preparing for a tough technical interview when his phone buzzed.
It was a Facebook notification, and when he saw it, a smile spread across his face.
“Reena sent you a friend request”
Raghu couldn’t help but feel a warmth spread through him.
He had thought about her more often than he had expected.
Though their conversations were brief during their time in college, Reena had made an impact on him, and he had missed their interactions.
The gesture of her sending a friend request made him feel connected to her again, even if only virtually.
He clicked on the request, and as he read her accompanying note, he couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
“Hi Raghu, I wanted to connect with you because I still have five semesters left to finish my BBA course. Even though you’ve completed yours, I’d love to stay in touch and maybe ask you for guidance on things. You’ve always been kind, and I really appreciate your help. I hope this doesn’t seem too weird! 😊”
Raghu smiled at the honesty and simplicity of her message.
Her words were genuine, and there was a certain childishness to it that made him laugh—a laugh that felt freeing and nostalgic.
He could almost picture Reena sitting there, writing this with a nervous yet hopeful look on her face.
Without a second thought, Raghu clicked ‘Accept’. Almost immediately, a new message notification popped up.
Reena:
“Yay! Thank you for accepting me, Raghu! Now I can ask you about anything, right?”
Raghu responded with a grin:
“Of course, Reena. Ask away. But you’ve got to promise me you’ll keep your head in your books and not just bother me for fun!”
Reena quickly replied with a laughing emoji.
Reena:
“Promise! I’ll still keep working hard, but I’ll keep you updated about my progress. You know, in case I need some expert guidance!”
Raghu laughed, typing back.
Raghu:
“Well, you definitely don’t need an expert for everything. But I’ll be happy to help when I can. By the way, how’s the semester 2 prep going?”
Reena’s reply came almost instantly, as if she had been waiting for him to ask.
Reena:
“It’s going well! But I think I need to go over some of the finance concepts again. I know you’ve been through all of this already, but I’m struggling a little with some of the formulas.”
Raghu typed quickly.
Raghu:
“Finance, huh? Don’t worry, that’s a tough one for most people. I can share a few tips, or I could help explain some of the concepts. I know how overwhelming it can be.”
Reena smiled as she read the message, grateful for Raghu’s willingness to help even now, after everything.
Reena:
“Thanks, Raghu! It’s good to know I have someone to turn to when I need help. And by the way, how’s the job hunt going? Have you heard back from anyone?”
Raghu felt a rush of pride as he typed his response.
Raghu:
“Well, I had my first interview last week. It went well, but I’m still waiting to hear back. Fingers crossed. I’ll let you know how it goes once I get any news!”
Reena sent a congratulatory message.
Reena:
“Good luck, Raghu! I’m sure you’ll nail it! You’ve got this. Keep me posted!”
The messages continued, flowing naturally as they discussed their college life, the struggles they were facing, and their hopes for the future.
It wasn’t the same as having face-to-face conversations, but it felt comforting to be able to reach out to each other again.
As the evening wore on, Raghu sat back, smiling at the screen.
It felt good to reconnect with Reena, to know that their paths had crossed in some way once again.
There was something reassuring about their ongoing conversation, a silent understanding between them that no matter where life took them, they could still rely on each other.
And though Reena was still several semesters away from completing her BBA course, she felt more confident knowing that Raghu, even from a distance, was there to guide her when she needed it.
The connection they shared—though virtual now—had the potential to grow into something much more meaningful, with time.
For now, though, they both knew one thing for sure—they were no longer just senior and junior.
They were friends, sharing their journeys, one message at a time.
